The Smartass LP is a full-length studio album created by PoorBoyLuke and released as an independent study.

The Smartass LP cover art has an encryption embedded on it that unlocks the companion app. The companion app was handed-coded from scratch using p5js and html elements.

The album was released on a physical CD and also digitally on all online music marketplaces like iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play.

Writing/Recording

The album was written after I set a goal to write 50 songs in 50 days. After the 50 days, I picked the best 15 and started recording them. I spent all of Fall 2017 semester doing this.

Production

I spent many long nights mixing and mastering The SALP. I was allowed access to ISU's ATK classrooms so I was able to test my mixes on giant speakers. By the end of winter break the album was completed.

Release/Promotion

Before winter break was up, I approached a professor about an independent study. I wanted to release this album in the most proficient way possible. I wanted to really engage people. With the help of my professor, I was able to put on a record release show at a new club downtown.

Release Show

Release day came and we put on a show at the brand new club downtown Bloomington called nightshop. We filled the place up. A fellow classmate was given a set. I invited out a colleague to perform his own set, and my hypeman also perform a solo set before I headlined the night. That night I received my first encore.

Merchandise

Shirts, posters, CDs, and stickers were all created in from the album cover art. We are still selling copies of this merch to this day. At the release show, I had set up the most successful merch booth of mine to date.
